Hazard Factory, a Seattle-based industrial Arts studio, started the "Power Tool Race & Derby" in 2005, and it's been getting bigger every year. We brought our camera to this year's installment, and it was super-crazy-nutty fun!

KUOW host Dave Beck knows classical music. He plays cello in the Auburn Symphony Orchestra, and has agreed to "school" Art Zone In Studio (i.e. Nancy) on the world of classical music. So far, with his first pick of the St. Helens Quartet, he's batting 1000! Way to go, Dave!

The fabulous New City Theater is back in the saddle with a brand new space on 18th and Union, and a slate of excellent and unique theatrical offerings, starting with "The Fever." Written by Wallace Shawn, and starring Peter Crook, this thoughtful and compelling one-person show runs now thru October 18th.

This fall, Prospect.1 New Orleans, the largest biennial of international contemporary art ever organized in the US, opens to the public in museums, historic buildings, and found sites throughout New Orleans. City Arts Magazine, a free arts magazine, is going monthly in Seattle, Tacoma, and the Eastside, with all sorts of fun regular features, including a cartoon strip from the phenomenally talented, Molly Norris.
The beloved Boat Street Café continues its delicious and fun communal dinner series with an "early summer foods" menu, sourced from local fishermen, farmers, and vintners, on Sunday, July 13th at 6:00 pm.
Natural photographer Steven Kazlowski, has a beautiful new book of photography, entitled, The Last Polar Bear: Facing the Truth of a Warming World. Act Theatre's innovative "Central Heating Lab," presents PINKABOO, the closeted American songbook. This week's featured painting by urban visionary artist Laura Castellanos is entitled Mosquita Muerta, which literally translates as dead fly. But this is not a picture of a dead fly, the name refers to women who seem “innocent” or passive, yet are strong and know how to take care of themselves. Laura says she was shy as a child, and that on occasion her beloved Grandmother, Mima, there she is, would call Laura a Mosquita Muerta, because she could see through Laura’s shyness to her underlying strength.
Renowned urban visionary artist Laura Castellanos, creator of the mysteriously cute bummerbunny logo, has painted a vibrant new collection of charming and unique creatures, all of whom have something to say. Open house May 18, 2-4 p.m.

Marcie has also produced an excellent 4-part radio series on PNB for KUOW 94.9, entitled "Dance Dance Evolution." In these four, 15-minute pieces, Marcie takes a deep look at the dancers of PNB, and the future of ballet.
