Peter Blecha
Peter Blecha's activities involving Northwest music and its history have inspired the media to dub him: “Seattle’s Curator of Rock & Roll” and “the premier expert in his chosen field of research” (Seattle Weekly, 1988), “the longtime unofficial historian of Northwest rock” (Everett Herald, 1990), and “the leading expert on Northwest music” (Vintage Guitar, 2000). As Senior Curator for the Experience Music Project (EMP), Blecha led the museum's Collections Development efforts collecting nearly 150,000 music artifacts including nearly every existing local music video and among the major exhibits he curated was the local history, Northwest Passage gallery. His wild adventures while scouring the globe for rarities even saw him described as the “Indiana Jones of Rock ‘n’ Roll” (The Rocket, 2000). Blecha's writings have been published by the Seattle Times, DISCoveries, and Life magazine and have appeared as liner notes for many local bands' LPs & CDs. He has authored Wired Wood: The Origins of the Electric Guitar (1997), Taboo Tunes: The History of Banned Bands & Censored Songs (2004), Rock & Roll Archaeologist (2005), Music In Washington: Seattle and Beyond (2007), the forthcoming book, SONIC BOOM! The History of Northwest Rock (2008) -- and Blecha currently serves as Contributing Editor (Music & Pop Culture) with the Northwest’s regional history web-site, HistoryLink.org
