Teaching artist Roger Fernandes tells this Coast Salish story where a young person transforms into a better person through the compassion and wisdom of the salmon, and also teaches his people the lessons he has learned. Can a culture change through the transformation of one person? Also, learn the 3 shapes in Coast Salish art and practice using those shapes to draw a salmon! This lesson is great for learners of all ages, particularly youth grades 3-8.

The Creative Advantage Online Arts video series is created by The Creative Advantage in collaboration with teaching artists and organizations on our Community Arts Partner Roster, Seattle Public Schools, and production partners NFFTY / The Talented Youth, NW Film Forum, and Reel Grrls Pro. The Creative Advantage is a city-wide initiative to establish equitable access to arts education for each and every public school student, made possible through a public-private partnership with Seattle Public Schools, the City of Seattle Office of Arts & Culture, the Seattle Foundation, and 100+ community arts partners and teaching artists.
