Mayor Jenny A. Durkan and Chief of Police Carmen Best discuss Chief Best's decision to retire after nearly 30 years of service to the people of Seattle. The Mayor has appointed Deputy Chief Adrian Diaz to serve as Interim Chief of the Seattle Police Department effective September 3, 2020. Following 2021 budget deliberations later this year, the Mayor will announce a search process for the next Chief of Police.
