Washington state is the battleground for two competing gun measures this fall. Initiative 594 would require universal background checks on all gun sales, while Initiative 591 would prevent the state from having a more stringent standard than the federal one. Gun rights advocates say I-594 would unfairly punish law-abiding gun owners, but I-594`s proponents say they are taking an important step towards public safety.
