Back in the 30`s and 40`s, Seattle`s vibrant jazz scene rocked Jackson Street at clubs like the Black and Tan and The Rocking Chair. Pianist/musician Oscar Holden raised two children, Dave and Grace, who couldn`t walk around their musical home "without running into a note". Front Row: Men`s Chorus Holiday Concert 12/17/2009
For thirty years, Seattle Men`s Chorus has sung traditional carols spiced with something new and zany. The parody medley "Heavy Christmas" begins the show with music by the likes of Strauss, Wagner, Grieg, Verdi, Bizet, Khachaturian and Tchaikovsky, with lyrics, and accompanied by Benaroya Hall`s Watjen Concert Organ. This concert is a full bag traditional classics plus surprises from Captain Smarty Pants and the jubilant "Bolly Jolly Holiday," which plays like Bombay Dreams of a white Christmas. Of course, the wacky will be balanced with the sublime as the Chorus` more traditional fare that creates a sound as heavenly as the season. Her lyrics appear on a regular basis in books and thesis papers. Thousands of people who may not even know her name join their voices in "Song of the Soul" around campfires and places of worship. Finally, the stage had been set for women, and particularly for lesbians, to write, produce, record, and issue their own material -- on their own terms.

Hip Hop Conference 2009 2/26/2009
Dr. Sujan "Supreme Understanding" Dass is a community activist and expert on what we call "the struggle." A lifelong resident of America's ghettos, the author has been involved in the rap game, the drug game, the street hustle game, the pimping game, before advancing the many "legit" games most hustlers never learn. The author has amassed a number of academic degrees to supplement the "hands-on" learning mentioned above, ranging from a Bachelor's degree in History to a Doctorate in Education with at-risk youth. He has also traveled the globe, researching, organizing, and conducting lectures, workshops, and motivational speeches. Supreme Understanding's ability to combine intellectual awareness with insight from the "real world" of America's ghettos has made him a staunch critic of the many failed measures to reach our urban youth. After studying the weaknesses of dozens of program, policies, and philosophies, the author realized something else was needed.

Front Row: Seattle Women's Chorus - Vixen Fiction 11/20/2008
The Seattle Women's Chorus goes back in time to the provocative days of racy pulp fiction and the history of women's music. Taking a fond and campy look at the spicy novels that captured the attention of the underground lesbian community in the '50s and '60s, Vixen Fiction includes love songs, torch songs and songs of forbidden desire. According to one writer, Ann Bannon never considered that her stories would become legends, inspiring countless fledgling dykes to flock to Greenwich Village, dog-eared copies of her books in hand, to find their own Beebos and Lauras and others who shared that unnamable love.

This Land is Our Land: A Chorus Tour 11/16/2008
A courageous group of Seattle Men's Chorus and Seattle Women's Chorus singers take an unforgettable summer road trip through the Northern Rockies to the "Red States" of Utah, Idaho, Montana and Wyoming. They know in their hearts and minds that music is a powerful source for human justice, and this proud family of over 250 chorus members purposefully travelled to towns and cities where their values and beliefs are not traditionally embraced. Together they did more than just sing a few concerts and entertain a few folks. They spread their vision of a world that accepts and values gay and lesbian citizens. They put a face on the gay community in areas starved for their message. This life-changing Rocky Mountain Tour was scary for some, awkward for others. But it also educated and unified audiences while bringing a sense of pride to those select chorus members returning home to a native land without a strong gay and lesbian support system.
