The investments include $1.7 million for expansion of the Law Enforcement Assisted Diversion (LEAD) program which connects low-level offenders with human services, $150,000 to increase hours at day and hygiene centers, $112,440 to extend Winter Response Shelters year-round, $500,000 for three Seattle Police officers dedicated to supporting Parks Rangers in downtown parks as well as Cal Anderson Park in Capitol Hill, $188,000 to make two recently hired Parks Rangers permanent, and $776,000 to increase Crisis Intervention Team (CIT) staffing.

Former Mayor Mike McGinn announced new City investments to support domestic violence victims in Seattle as part of his 2014 Proposed Budget. A total of nearly $438,000 in investments would fund support for critically needed housing for domestic violence survivors and their children ($200,000); development of a domestic violence response center that would provide multiple, coordinated services in one location ($125,000); and a manager position in the Human Services Department to lead the city`s efforts to prevent domestic violence and sexual assault ($113,000).

Former Mayor Mike McGinn announced new City efforts to support young people eligible for work authorizations through the federal Deferred Action for Childhood Arrival (DACA) policy launched by President Barack Obama in June 2012. Individuals age 18 and over can now call the Seattle City Light Service Center at (206) 684-3000 and have their names added to the utility bill for their home, helping to provide a paper trail to prove residency.

The Seattle Police Department announced it is conducting an active criminal investigation into allegations of improper payment and treatment of workers at affordable housing construction projects that have received City funding. Former Mayor Mike McGinn announces his intention to put a ballot measure before Seattle voters to raise funds to replace the deteriorating seawall along the waterfront. McGinn announces his plan to put an approximately $250 million 30-year bond before city voters. The property tax measure will raise 12 cents per $1,000 of assessed property value. It will cost the owner of a $400,000 home about $48 per year. The current state plan for viaduct replacement does not cover replacing the existing seawall. The mayor will send his proposal to the City Council in February, to hold a special election on May 18.

Comp Plan Update Kickoff - Seattle 2030 and Beyond 11/17/2009
The city is changing, and the world is changing. We want your help in creating a visionary Comprehensive Plan that addresses the next 20 years and continues Seattle`s promise as the city of the future. On November 17th the City of Seattle and the community launched an important update of Seattle`s Comprehensive Plan. Offering remarks was keynote speaker and former City of Seattle Mayor, Norm Rice; Mayor-elect Mike McGinn; Josh Brower, Chair of the Seattle Planning Commission; and Diane Sugimura, Director of the Department of Planning and Development. Entitled "Seattle 2030 and Beyond", this is the first major review of the Comp Plan since 2004, and is required by the Growth Management Act to be completed by the end of 2011. In the coming months the city will be developing recommendations to update the Comp Plan based on the vision provided by the community, new growth projections, and an assessment by all of the challenges and opportunities the people of Seattle will encounter in the coming decades. This is as an important opportunity for Seattle to dream big and choose wisely.
