After close to 20 years of being on the partisan political frontlines, Joby Shimomura, a political junkie who had to get her candidates elected and re-elected, Joby wanted to spend some time on herself for a change - something challenging, something creative, and most importantly, something fun. Joby Shimomura is a craftswoman specializing in the art of contemporary stained glass. She attended the Covenant Store in Everett for a six-week course in stained glass. Joby had held a fascination with stained glass from an early age so she signed up for the class and dutifully attended each class while continuing her responsibilities as Jay Inslee's chief of staff. Today, Joby goes to work without the need for a calendar and appointment book. She has her own studio, in Pioneer Square. She spends her time designing glass, cutting glass, and thinking of creative ways to express her liberated creativity. When asked to describe her style, Joby said that she creates "by a sense of feel" - creative instincts are probably best described as intuitive.

Marie McCaffrey attended the University of Washington, majoring in art and psychology. She later studied graphic design at the New School of Visual Concepts. After several years of free-lance design, she founded Crowley Associates in 1980 with her husband Walt Crowley. In 1997, Crowley discussed preparing a Seattle-King County historical encyclopedia for the 2001 sesquicentennial of the Denny Party. Marie McCaffrey suggested publishing the encyclopedia on the Internet. They and Paul Dorpat incorporated HistoryLink on November 10, 1997, with seed money from Priscilla "Patsy" Collins, by birth a member of Seattle's wealthy and prominent Bullitt family. The prototype of HistoryLink.org debuted on May 1, 1998, and attracted additional funding for a formal launch in 1999. In 2003 HistoryLink.org expanded its content to cover Washington state history.

Nancy Guppy's arts career started in 1985, when she signed up for acting 101 at Seattle Central Community College. Since then she has performed, produced and written for stage and television, including 10 years as a cast member of KING-TV's late night comedy show, "Almost Live." In 2002, Nancy borrowed $3,000 from her Dad and produced a pilot for an arts promotion program called "City-A-Go-Go," which went on to win two local Emmy Awards and air on KCTS and Seattle Channel 21. At the Seattle Channel, Nancy also produced "Gallery Hop" and "Verve". In 2008, "City-A-Go-Go" expanded to "Art Zone in Studio," a weekly 30-minute program that celebrates and promotes the tremendous diversity of the local art scene. Nancy believes art is a necessity, not a luxury and says her goal is to encourage her viewers to "get out there, try something new, and experience the awesome power of art's work.

Speight Jenkins Jr. is an American arts administrator and Director of Seattle Opera. Jenkins, a native of Dallas, Texas, is the son of Speight Jenkins Sr and Sara Baird Jenkins. His B.A. degree is from the University of Texas at Austin, and he graduated in 1961 from Columbia University Law School. He served in the US Army, and later became a music critic and journalist. He worked for seven years at Opera News as its news and reports editor, and later at the New York Post from 1973 to 1981 as music critic. He has been a host for US television's Live from the Met. In the early 1980s, Jenkins was a guest lecturer at Seattle Opera for the company's production of Richard Wagner's Der Ring des Nibelungen. His knowledge impressed the Seattle Opera board of trustees such that they offered him the post of general director of the company. He began his tenure with Seattle Opera as general director in 1983, and in 2003, signed a 10-year extension to his contract.

SAM achieved a high level of artistic excellence and unprecedented levels of accessibility; organized major exhibitions of scholarly and critical acclaim; increased its endowment, attendance and membership; diversified its board, staff and audience; created a conservation department and studio; and added more than 6,500 works of art from a wide variety of cultures to its collection , including a commitment of over 1000 works in 2007 in honor of the museum's 75th anniversary, said to be one of the most important gifts of art to a museum in the history of U.S. philanthropy.

In 1968, Mike moved to television and spent more than 25 years on King's top-rated news programs. After a run for US Senate in 1994, Mike returned to television, covering local events on KIRO from January 1995 to July 1999. She received an artist fellowship at the National Museum of the American Indian. Wong-Whitebear is founder of the Three Generations Dance Group, and has served on many projects including the Community Advisory Board for the Pacific Voices Exhibit, Burke Museum 1994-1997, and the Community Advisory Committee of the Wing Luke Asian Museum's new home.

After receiving his law degree from Boston University, Gary Locke worked as a deputy prosecutor in King County from 1976-1980. He was elected to the Washington State House of Representatives where served on the House Judiciary and Appropriations Committees from 1983-1994. Locke was elected King County Executive, and then ran successfully for governor, serving from 1997-2005 as the first Chinese-American governor in U.S. history. Locke left office in 2005 and joined the Seattle office of international law firm Davis Wright Tremaine.

He was first elected to the House in 1994, and has been Speaker of the House since 2001. He graduated from the University of Washington in 1975, and while in college organized efforts to preserve low income housing in Seattle.

J.P. Patches (full name Julius Pierpont Patches) is a clown who appeared on the Seattle television station KIRO channel 7 from 1958 to 1981, after appearing for a few years on Minneapolis station WTCN channel 11 starting in 1953. At a peak of its 22-year run, the Emmy-winning program had a viewership of over 100,000 in its local markets. When it ended in 1981, the show was the longest running, locally produced children's program in the U.S. The show was live, unrehearsed, masterful improv with an intense barrage of contributions from the off-camera crew. J.P. is still making appearances as of 2007.

The Museum's first exhibits displayed artifacts, documents, and photographs collected by the Seattle Historical Society.

He serves annually as a faculty artist for the renowned Bud Shank/Centrum Jazz Workshop. In 2002 Clarence received national Educator of the Year Award from Down Beat magazine.
