Mayor Durkan announces new proposals for alternatives to sworn response
Mayor Durkan announces new proposals for alternatives to sworn response
7/23/202132:17

Building off of the City's work to reimagine policing and community safety, Mayor Jenny A. Durkan was joined by Councilmember Lisa Herbold and public safety leaders to announce the creation of a new specialized triage response program that will provide an alternative model for some 911 calls. Analyzing the data of 911 calls and recognizing the hiring challenges of sworn officers facing the Seattle Police Department, Mayor Durkan, SPD, SFD, and CSCC are proposing a series of plans to maintain 911 response while reducing the need for a sworn officer response in some calls.

This proposal builds on Mayor Durkan's announcement of $10.4 million to support 33 community organizations focused on BIPOC community led safety programs, and announcement of $2 million investment in Regional Peacekeepers Collective to address gun violence in King County.

Speakers include:

Mayor Jenny A. Durkan, City of Seattle
Lisa Herbold, Seattle City Councilmember
Adrian Diaz, Seattle Police Chief
Harold Scoggins, Seattle Fire Chief
Christopher Lombard, Director of the Community Safety and Communications Center
