Mayor Wilson announces Executive Order to accelerate the City's Vision Zero safety work
“Do Not Solicit” Legislation Signing
9/8/202614:58

Mayor Katie B. Wilson today signed Ordinance 127491, creating Seattle's first citywide "Do Not Solicit" List to give homeowners a clear and enforceable way to opt out of unwanted, persistent, and predatory real estate outreach. These practices have particularly impacted elderly homeowners and communities of color, contributing to displacement and undermining generational wealth.Residents descriged solicitations as stressful, invasive, or fear-inducing at a June 2026 Housing, Arts, and Civil Rights Committee. The ordinance imposes a $1,000 penalty for a first violation and $2,000 for repeat violations, and allows homeowners to pursue civil action within two years. Implementation begins June 1, 2027.

Speakers:

Councilmember Dionne Foster

Seattle Mayor Katie Wilson

Seattle Office of Civil Rights Interim Director Mike Chin

Black Legacy Homeowners Executive Director Chukundi Salisbury
