Following Judge Robart's comments today, Mayor Jenny A. Durkan, Police Chief Carmen Best, and City Attorney Pete Holmes host a brief media availability to highlight the continued progress by the Seattle Police Department under the federal, Court-ordered consent decree and the City's commitment to meaningful, lasting reforms.

Signed by Mayor Durkan as the then-United States Attorney for the Western District of Washington, the consent decree required the Seattle Police Department (SPD) to enact significant reforms, including: new use of force policies and trainings that emphasize de-escalation; a new approach to how officers interact with people experiencing mental crisis; new supervision and oversight with community involvement.
