When Luis and Leona Rodriguez opened "The Station" 10 years ago, they wanted it to be much more than a coffee shop. Since then, The Station has become a community hub, serving as a food pantry, a place to share ideas, to hold fundraisers for victims of violence, and to host writing workshops for young poets. Their selfless commitment to the community has earned them the Roberto Maestas Legacy Award. As Enrique Cerna explains, the award recognizes those who advance the work of Martin Luther King Jr.'s "Beloved Community" where people of all races come together to end racism and poverty.
