City Inside/Out: Washington voters to decide on two initiatives impacting K-12 students

This November, Washington voters will decide on two ballot measures affecting K-12 schools. Initiative 638 would bar transgender girls from girls' sports and require every girl to obtain a healthcare provider's statement verifying their biological sex, via reproductive anatomy, genetics or testosterone. Initiative 001 would change current state law to give parents and guardians broader access to their children's school, medical, and counseling records. Women's rights advocate Amy Sousa argues both measures restore fairness and parents' authority. State Sen.
