Should the city regulate short-term rentals like Airbnb & VRBO?
City Inside/Out: Short-Term Rentals
6/10/201628:36

As Seattle grows in popularity, many homeowners are cashing in, renting out their residences on online home-sharing sites like Airbnb and VRBO. The mayor and City Council members say these fast-growing services should be regulated because they are threatening the city's long-term affordable housing stock. But will new rules, targeted more at landlords with multiple properties, hurt private-property rights and stifle a much-needed service in our rapidly changing sharing economy? What's the right balance?
