2020 was a year like no other. A global pandemic and widespread racial injustice forced many businesses to close. So, when Erwin and Darnesha Weary decided to open a café, many asked...now? Their decision was rooted in a strong belief in their product and a desire to create a safe place for people to congregate. Some early setbacks were overcome by a supportive community and now their Black Coffee Northwest is thriving. The business sells its own variety of coffee beans, offers barista training, and provides insight and education on Black culture. Producer Laila Kazmi has the story.
