Conversation with Jorge Barón, a leader in Northwest immigrant rights
CityStream: A Conversation with Jorge Barón
7/19/201818:31

Jorge Barón knows the obstacles immigrants face. He arrived in this country at the age of 13. He didn't speak the language. He had no friends, and nothing seemed familiar. That perspective helps him fight for the rights of immigrants, refugees and asylum seekers as head of the Northwest Immigrant Rights Project. For Barón, the Trump administration's policy on family separations has been especially troubling. In an extended interview with Enrique Cerna, he shares his thoughts on immigration policy and how he first learned so many detainees were being sent to the Seattle region.
