For Mayor Jenny Durkan, a trip to the Texas/Mexico border was an eye-opener that fueled her contempt for President Trump's immigration policy. She was among a bipartisan group of 20 U.S. mayors that visited a government holding facility on the southern border. Inside were migrant children who had been separated from their parents and sent there for an indefinite period of time. The mayors requested permission but were denied entry to the temporary facility to check on the kids' living conditions. As she walked in 100-degree heat, Durkan condemned the situation saying it was no place for children and just plain wrong.
