Seattle City Light: Electricity Theft
It`s estimated City Light loses $3 million a year from stolen power. That is cost that must be picked up from other rate payers. Seattle Fire Department has fought fires due to power theft, and there have been deaths in other cities because of meter tampering. Power theft is a crime and is being prosecuted by the King County Prosecutors Office. City Light is also levying penalty fees of up to $500 against those found to be stealing power, in addition to fees for damaged equipment and the costs of repairing altered wiring service.

Seattle City Light has improved its 80 year tradition of offering the public a tour of the Skagit Hydroelectric Project. Seattle City Light: Thriftway Upgrades to lighting and freezers
Thriftway in West Seattle upgraded their lighting and freezers with help of a grant from City Light, paying for about half the costs. The anticipated savings to Thriftway is estimated to be over $22 thousand a year on the electric bill.
