The Brazilian rhythm of capoeira blossoms in West Seattle

West Seattle is the local epicenter of a Brazilian martial art form known as capoeira. It’s part dance and part acrobatics with music and spirituality mixed in. Capoeira’s origins date back hundreds of years when Africans were enslaved and shipped to Brazil. Once there, they disguised a form of martial arts to protect themselves, and that is how capoeira was born. Brian Callanan speaks to instructors and students to learn why they’re so passionate about this Brazilian tradition.
