CityStream: Saving the Refugee and Immigrant Family Center
8/15/20196:18
The Refugee and Immigrant Family Center (RIFC) has been cherished in West Seattle for three decades, providing preschool and childcare to low-income families. People regularly volunteer to help upgrade the facility, and over time, $400,000 in improvements have been made. The landlord knew it, saw an opportunity, and decided to sell. That triggered a desperate search by the preschool's managers for a new home. Nothing quite measured up and time was running out. Finally, the center learned about the City of Seattle's Equitable Development Initiative, an anti-displacement program. And as Tatevik Aprikyan reports, it was the right program at the right time.
