CityStream: Seattle restaurants & retailers stepping out

The number of people losing their livelihood during the pandemic is staggering. Since March, a Yelp study reports more than 2,800 area businesses have closed. But some restaurants and retailers have found a way to stay afloat, by stepping out. The Seattle Department of Transportation is now issuing permits for sidewalk cafes and street closures. Customers say they feel safer in the open-air. Restaurant owners say the new option has provided a much-needed boost to their bottom-line. Producer Ian Devier spoke to merchants who say this may become a permanent thing.
