CityStream: The Elliott Bay Book Company Perseveres During Pandemic

When the pandemic hit, businesses across the region saw sales plummet. The future looked grim. Even Seattle's premier independent bookseller was forced to furlough its workers. But loyal supporters of the Elliott Bay Book Company refused to let it go under. Internet orders increased and curbside pickups surged. Soon, they were able to call back some staffers, and each day as new orders roll in, many of them include handwritten notes from patrons who adore the bookstore. Producer Laila Kazmi explains that all the new orders plus encouragement from customers have sustained Elliott Bay Books during tough times.
