CityStream: Centenarian Chinese American veteran honored
12/15/20203:40
103-year-old Gene Moy is the nation's oldest surviving Chinese American veteran of World War II. Now, he's a recipient of the Congressional Gold Medal, one of this country's highest civilian awards. Moy was among 20,000 Chinese Americans to serve in the war. Fewer than 300 of those veterans are still alive today. As part of a special ceremony, the veterans were honored for serving despite facing intense prejudice and discrimination at home. Gene Moy said he never gave it a second thought. He signed up to fight for his country and to defend freedom. Producer Randy Eng has more.
