After years of study, Nicole Stankovic was thrilled her family would soon travel from around the world to attend her University of Washington (UW) commencement ceremony. But COVID intervened. Two years later, UW decided to have a makeup ceremony for grads who missed out. And once again, Nicole’s family geared up for a trip to Seattle. But delays and canceled flights created another challenge. Still, her family was determined to see her walk across the stage to accept her diploma. Linda Byron documents one family’s effort to share in a special moment.
