CityStream: City Light returns Native American artifacts
9/27/20225:13
When Seattle City Light renovated an old mess hall at a hydroelectric site in Newhalem, remnants from the past were unearthed. Archaeological consultants hired by the utility determined the artifacts had Native roots. And these items weren’t just a decade or a century old, they dated back thousands of years. The Seattle city council decided there was only one thing to do - return the items to their rightful owner, the Upper Skagit Indian Tribe. Brian Callanan shares this fascinating story of cultural history and a re-connection thousands of years in the making.
