CityStream: Duwamish River Cleanup Seen Up Close
4/11/20236:20
Seattle’s only river, the Duwamish, once snaked 15 miles through the south end. But during the 20th century, the river was shortened by miles to make it easier to navigate and to boost commerce. Industrialization along the riverbank created a toxic mess, and in 2001 it was named an Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) Superfund site. Since then, much has improved, and the Duwamish River Cleanup Coalition is proud to show it off. It now offers boat tours to community members. Producer Pete Cassam took a ride to see the changes up close.
