There are over a quarter-million undocumented workers in Washington, many employed as essential workers during the pandemic. They have not received federal stimulus checks or unemployment insurance due to their immigration status, even though they pay taxes. State lawmakers have allocated $65 million in new funds to help them, but there's an effort underway to create a permanent fund that is raising larger questions about American citizenship and equity.
