City Inside/Out: Capital Gains Tax Debate
3/12/202128:39
A controversial capital gains tax bill targeting wealthy Washingtonians is gaining traction in Olympia. It has narrowly passed in the state Senate, and with enough votes in the House, will impose a 7% tax on profits over $250,000 when you sell stocks, bonds and some other financial assets. Supporters say the new revenue will help early education and taxpayer equity, but opponents call it an illegal income tax. Voters may get the final say.
