City Light crews completed a project in September that required the movement of a 310 ton metal structure from land, onto the Boundary Reservoir and then sink the structure next to the dam. This is the culmination of a year long refurbishment project.

Needed maintenance work at Diablo Dam on Skagit Hydroelectric Project leads to spectacular water releases through the spill gates. Work hasn`t been done in over 10 years and helps to increase the efficient generation of electricity.
City Light is conducting a contest for customers to submit videos aimed at solutions to retiring old refrigerators and freezers that waste energy. This video promotes the contest and rebate program offered for old, working refrigerators.

New Tug Boat at the Skagit

Seattle City Light maintains a small fleet of boats on Diablo Lake at its Skagit Hydroelectric Project. Recently a new tug boat, built in Seattle, had to trucked up to the project in pieces in order to fit through the mountain tunnels and narrow roadways.

Seattle City Light has improved its 80 year tradition of offering the public a tour of the Skagit Hydroelectric Project. Seattle City Light and the Woodland Park Zoo are cooperating with the installation of solar arrays on top of the zoo`s historic carousel. The power from the solar panels will supply the carousels motor and some of the lighting through net-metering.

City Light is happy to welcome the first mass produced electric car, using 100 % carbon neutral clean electricity. These cars are now available, and are the first of many electric vehicles that will soon be on the city streets.

Seattle City Light continues to check metal streetlight poles for contact voltage which could be dangerous to pets and, in extreme cases, people. This video shows how the tests are being conducted.

Seattle City Light`s north substation is hosting a herd of 270 goats to clear a slope of blackberries. This is the third time in 4 years the goats have helped clear the persistent weeds.
Babcock Creek Bridge

Seattle City Light is racing to build a bridge at a remote area near the Skagit Hydroelectric project. The bridge will keep a road to a vital communications tower open in bad weather. City Light, as well as the Whatcom County Sheriff and National Park Service, rely on this tower year round.
