CityStream: 988 Mental Health Hotline
12/13/20225:53
The holiday season is a difficult time for people struggling with mental health issues. And for those in crisis, a new national program makes it much simpler to find help. The 988 Suicide and Crisis Lifeline is a free and confidential line anyone can call or text 24/7. This potentially lifesaving service also provides special assistance to American Indian and Alaska Native people, who have the highest suicide rate of any ethnicity in America. If they press “4” after calling 9-8-8, their call will be routed to special volunteers trained to help Native and Indigenous people. Experts agree no mental health crisis is too large or small. If you need help, dial 9-8-8. Brian Callanan reports.
