Seattle U Conversations: Political Polarization and its Impacts on Universities
5/16/202457:14
Public and private universities in this country face a dilemma, a growing loss of public confidence. University of Washington President Ana Mari Cauce and Seattle University President Eduardo Peñalver tell host Joni Balter and guest interviewer Abigail Berhane balancing these concerns are a constant struggle. For President Cauce, the current “liberated zone or encampment” at the UW is an added challenge, but one she says is essential. SU President Peñalver cites university communities as some of the most diverse in our society. And that diversity can heighten understanding, “I think one thing that happens is that students come to a university, and it changes them. And that in turn drives some of the reaction.”
