“These issues aren’t limited to just one area.” Seattle’s CARE Department will expand its services citywide on March 10, now including South and Southwest Seattle. In January, North Seattle received its own assigned Community Crisis Responders (CCRs). CCRs assist Seattle Police Department (SPD) officers in responding to 9-1-1 calls involving individuals in crisis or facing behavioral health challenges, such as non-violent person-down incidents, welfare checks, and other requested calls. The CARE Department aims to streamline the process of connecting individuals to appropriate service providers while allowing police officers and firefighters to focus on higher-priority calls. With this expansion, a total of 27 CCRs will now serve the entire city.
