No Going Back: How to Build a Woman-Centered Recovery
No Going Back: How to Build a Woman-Centered Recovery

2020 marked the end of a devastating year - this is especially true for working women. As schools shut down and businesses laid off workers, women here in Seattle and across the country were faced with an endless array of grueling decisions surrounding their financial security, personal safety, and the well-being of their families. Consider these stats from the National Women's Law Center: in 2020, nearly 2.1 million women left the U.S. labor force, including 564,000 Black women and 317,000 Latinas; women lost more than half of the 9.6 million net jobs lost in 2020; by the end of 2020, about 2 in 5 unemployed women ages 20 and over had been out of work for 6 months or longer.

The COVID-19 pandemic exposed many of the critical fault lines in our local economy and social safety net. Join The Evergrey and Civic Commons on June 9, as we bring together thoughtful leaders to discuss how to build an equitable economic recovery for women.

Regina Malveaux, Director of the Washington Women's Commission, Office of the Governor
