Fix, repeal, or replace state's new long-term care insurance?
City Inside/Out: Long-Term Care Debate

A new state program to help provide up to $36,500 in long-term care insurance to Washington workers is now in limbo. Washington Cares is intended to address a looming caregiving crisis through a mandatory new payroll tax, but hundreds of thousands of workers have opted out, jeopardizing the solvency of the program. Democrats vow to make fixes this legislative session but Republicans are pushing to replace the controversial fund with an optional private alternative.
