Just like the Monorail, the original Skyride from the 1962 Seattle World’s Fair continues to thrill riders, just not in Seattle. After its six-month run at the fair, the popular attraction continued on at Seattle Center for 18 more years. But in 1980, a proposed renovation to the Center called for the removal of the Skyride and Seattle’s loss was Puyallup’s gain. The Skyride got a new life at the Washington State Fair. It’s now been in Puyallup twice as long as it was in Seattle. And fair officials say the Swiss-made Von Roll gondolas are so well built they’ll be in service for years to come. Producer Pete Cassam has more.
