Iconic downtown movie theater makes cinematic return
CityStream: Seattle’s Beloved Cinerama Theater Returns
2/27/20246:32

Seattle is a city that loves movies as well as the movie theaters located in nearly every neighborhood. One example is the Cinerama, a downtown icon. It shut down in 2020, partly due to the pandemic. Back then, many thought the closure was permanent. But the Seattle International Film Festival stepped in to save it. And with support from the city of Seattle and King County, SIFF worked out a deal with Paul Allen’s estate. After renovation, the Cinerama recently reopened with a new name, SIFF Cinema Downtown. But some things remain the same, including the theater’s allure, its giant screen, and yes, even its chocolate popcorn! Feliks Banel reports.
