After sitting vacant for years, Fire Station 6 in the Central District will serve a new purpose. It will become the William Grose Center for Cultural Innovation and Enterprise. Many are thrilled by the prospect, but they have one question: Who is William Grose? He was a 19th century Black businessman who rose to prominence before racial prejudice took hold in Seattle. Planners say transferring this city-owned property back to the community is an important step in helping revitalize the neighborhood. Feliks Banel reports.
