The Georgetown Steam Plant buzzes with life as an arts and events space
CityStream: Sam Farrazaino and the Georgetown Steam Plant
1/23/20244:02

For decades, the city managed the historic Georgetown Steam Plant. And even though it hasn’t produced electricity in more than 70 years, there’s still a buzz about this place. Its biggest fan is Sam Farrazaino, President of the nonprofit Georgetown Steam Plant Community Development Authority, which signed a long-term lease to manage programming and operations of the plant. Farrazaino isn’t shy when he describes his admiration of the place, saying, “This is truly, my most favorite building in all the world,” and he has plans to build on its legacy. Already, the steam plant has hosted dance, theater, music, even ghost hunting events! Sam Farrazaino shares more in an interview with Enrique Cerna.
